Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability at NXTech

NXTech Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability

 2019

At NXTech, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact.  By choosing environmentally friendly and sustainable practices where we can, and making a difference in our everyday choices we aim to promote our business in ways which benefit the environment.

We employ a large variety of resources / actions wherever we can, including some of the points listed below, to lessen our environmental impact, contribute to the local community, decrease waste and contribute to a more sustainable business sector.

Corporate Social Responsibility

What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?

CSR is a process whereby companies aim to embrace responsibility for their activities by ensuring they have a positive impact on society, the environment and the economy. At its heart, CSR aims to ensure companies are conducting their business in a way that is ethical.

What this means for NXTech

CSR means taking account of our social, economic and environmental impact, and choosing to conduct our business in the most positive ways we can.

We are keen to find areas within our business - from supply and distribution, to waste and recycling - where we can reduce our environmental impact, promote environmental conservation and also support the local community.

How we do this

Contribution to educational and social programs

NXTech is proud to promote the joy of reading in children. NXTech sponsor a local school and provide students with copies of book titles to contribute to this important and engaging endeavour (see https://www.barneyecho.co.uk/about-us/)

Supporting Ecosia

Ecosia is a search engine, like any other. With one major difference. Ecosia use all of their profits to plant trees (Ecosia, 2019).

At NXTech.co.uk we aim to do the little things that can have big impacts, such as making Ecosia.org our go-to search engine.

To date Ecosia have planted over 50 million trees worldwide.

To get involved, simply type www.ecosia.org into your web browser and choose to make Ecosia your default search engine.

It’s the little things like this in everyday life, that can contribute to all of us making a difference.

One Tree Planted

NXTech has partnered** with US-based charity One Tree Planted. For just £1, our customers have the option of planting a tree with every order made through our website.

One Tree Planted are on a mission of global reforestation. They plant trees in North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia (One Tree Planted, 2020). NXTech take all donations from our customers to One Tree Planted to help in their planting projects around the world. In this way we're hoping to offset our carbon emissions and also assist in planting as many valuable trees as possible.

Employee Tree Planting

Our employees also love to get involved with local tree planting missions, and we've been involved with the Woodland Trust's Big Climate Fightback; Trees for Londoners Campaign. One of our staff member was the lucky recipient of two free trees from Woodland Trust to plant locally!

 Waste and Recycling

Card and Paper Products

At NXTech we are committed to recycling and to reducing waste. We will strive to reuse and / or recycle all of our paper and card products.

We receive a lot of deliveries, and send out many in return. Alongside our commitment to try and source FSC certified products, we will always reuse cardboard we receive, by using it to package our own items. In this way we reduce the need to purchase paper and cardboard and ensure very little is needlessly sent to landfill.

Any paper or card items we cannot reuse to package customers items or large deliveries are collected and taken to a local recycling container.

Plastics

The problem of plastic waste is a very pressing issue. At NXTech we will try to use packaging techniques which do not involve the use of single-use plastic materials wherever we can. However, where plastic is used we will always attempt to reuse products as many times as possible and recycle any currently recyclable plastics at local facilities.

We are also currently researching suppliers of packaging materials made from recycled plastic. In this way we can ensure our customers receive professional, protectively packaged items, whilst also offsetting plastic waste.

Carbon neutral shipping

Carbon neutrality can be defined as actions which strive for net a carbon footprint value of zero. This is achieved by offsetting carbon emissions with efforts to remove carbon dioxide from the environment.

At NXTech we work very closely with courier companies and are proud to work with courier companies with carbon neutral commitments, such as DPD and UPS.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)

Forests For All. Forever.” (FSC, 2019)

FSC is an “international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests” (FSC, 2019).

NXTech will always try to source FSC certified paper / card products, and work with suppliers and distributors who are FSC certified, or use FSC certified products.

Why we do this

As a small business, we are able to bring our personal commitments to the forefront of all that we do. Our staff feel very strongly about environmental protection and together we have written this Sustainability and Responsibility document so that our customers may be assured that we as a business are working towards sustainable practices.

We believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to make a positive change.
